6 productive habits must be in an Entrepreneur’s routine

The daily routine of a person can make a huge difference on his health, happiness and productivity. Entrepreneurship isn’t an easy task. Founders must forge their own path, gather resources and take on huge financial risks. Entrepreneurs are some of the busiest people around. Entrepreneur’s day is a chock-full of business decisions, research and networking. Because there’s so much to do, they can easily become distracted with non-essentials and get off the track. To maximize their productivity they adopt some productive habits in their lifestyle. By adopting those habits or routine one can minimize the amount of time spend on business and still have time to enjoy other areas of life. So here are some of those habits:

1) Establish a routine
The first thing is a must that is to “Establish a Daily Routine”. To accomplish success in the professional as well as personal life, an entrepreneur must set and stick to a daily schedule, though it’s a challenge to follow the routine, but without it an entrepreneur won’t complete any desired work on time.
You have to set up a routine yourself based on your professional and personal life and according to your priorities. You have to be an early riser if you have a family, and probably would have to start early before anyone in the house. But if you are more productive at night, then you can set up a routine accordingly.
By establishing a routine you help yourself prioritizing your tasks.
In an interview, Jack Dorsey, Founder of twitter and square, told about how he actually worked months ago while building both the companies. He actually worked 16 hours a day for both the companies, that means 8 hours a day for each. How he did that?
He actually followed a daily routine by setting up themed days:
“Monday: Managing and running the company
Tuesday: Product
Wednesday: Marketing and communications, growth
Thursday: Developers and partnerships
Friday: Company culture and recruiting”
So by setting up these days, he could focus on one task at a time and could actually complete it.
The conclusion is that by setting up a plan or routine, even if for a day or week in advance, you are not wasting valuable time.

2) Exercise or meditate
Try to establish exercising a priority either at the start of the day or at the end. Some successful people always start their day by pumping their hearts, like the CEOs of Apple, Xerox, Pepsi, Christies and Starwood Hotels .
But If you are not that person who likes to rise early and do not want to work out first thing in the morning, then at least you can go for a morning walk or do yoga or meditation.
By doing any sort of activity to relieve stress and clear your mind is a great way to head start and give yourself time to prepare to tackle the hurdles and challenges of the day.
3) Focus
In this world of competition, it can be hard to focus on the works. But focus is really important to get success. Concentration is required at every point and detail to complete the work effectively and efficiently during a hectic day.
One should take some proactive steps, prioritize and focus on 2-3 high priority tasks only to minimize the distraction. Although your list of priorities may be much longer but when you focus on the most important tasks and end up completing them productively, you feel satisfied and confident at the end of the day.
Grab a habit of saying no. If you want to get your business fly, you have to give it a lot of time. Say no to parties, no to drinks on weekends, no to movies, no to any other unproductive work. You have got to be focused on the things only related to your business.

4) Spend time on revenue generating activities
If you are going through a lot of time-waster activities, you need to stop, refocus and gain clarity. Ask yourself a question “where do I want to be in next 15 or 30 days”? Am I contributing to my end goals?
It’s especially important for early-stage startups. You need to be focused on revenue generating activities. If you are not pinning for profit- then stop.
Practice self discipline, it’s the ability to stay patient and work hard now to reap the benefits later. You have got to store this in your mind that sooner or later you have to do the hard work in life then why don’t you start from now only.
5) Check/track your progress
Check yourself for a couple of minutes whether you’ve been progressing towards your goals effectively that you’ve established for yourself and the company. This helps in tracking your progress and breaking down goals into attainable tasks that can be accomplished easily. And also by evaluating your progress you can further decide on how to prioritize your time.
Check your cash flows every day, this will help you identify what money is coming in and what you’re spending daily. Keep track of every invoice. Spend time to follow up with clients, phone calls or emails.
Finally, Knowledge is the ultimate potential power, but too much of it can also be a distraction. Always gain clarity on the type of information that inspires you and consume it accordingly.
6) Plan for Tomorrow and get some Sleep
Always prepare for the next day. You are more ready to wake up and start on the project at hand in the morning if you arrange a couple of tasks or goals before going to bed. This also helps in creating priorities in your schedule for the following day.
And at the end get some good sufficient sleep and be sure to set a bed time. Almost every successful entrepreneur goes to bed at the same time every night. Leave the phone and computer away so that you don’t get distracted while trying to fall asleep. When you get the proper sleep you need, you’ll feel more energetic, excited and ready to take on the challenges entrepreneurship throws your way.
